Primarily non-business related correspondence of a Charlotte textile industrialist, civic leader, and philanthropist. The bulk of the collection relates to Barnhardt's donation of copies of Cornelia Wearn Henderson's Early Charlotte and Mecklenburg County for Children (1968) to local schools and colleges. Includes a small amount of correspondence with North Carolina Governor Luther Hodges and evangelist Grady Wilson.

Cornelia Wearn Henderson (1902-90) maintained close ties to her native home in Mecklenburg County. Her father's family arrived in Mecklenburg in the 1820s, and her mother's family (Wearn) traced its roots back to the 1750s. Henderson's interest in local history began when she received a B.A. in history from Queens College.
